Certain Display Devices, Streaming Players, and Components Thereof; Notice of Institution of Investigation

📌 ETDETA brief — importer impact summary (educational)

Brief takeaway: The ITC has opened a Section 337 patent-infringement investigation into certain display devices, streaming players, and their components, which could eventually lead to import restrictions on affected goods.

What changed: According to the notice, the ITC instituted an investigation based on a complaint filed by InnoTV Labs, LLC alleging that imported display devices, streaming players, and components infringe six U.S. patents. The notice states the complainant requests a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders, which the Commission may issue only after completing the investigation.

Who's affected: The notice names display devices, streaming players, and components thereof. It cites U.S. Patent Nos. 7,965,918, 12,096,066, 10,018,863, RE50,251, 11,714,306, and 12,038,636 as the patents at issue. No specific HTS codes or countries of origin are identified in the notice.

What to review:
- Review whether your imported products fall within the "display devices, streaming players, and components thereof" described in the notice.
- Confirm with your customs broker or trade counsel whether the named patents may be relevant to your goods or suppliers.
- Check the ITC docket for the scope of the investigation and any respondents named as the case proceeds.
- Review your supply chain for potential exposure if a limited exclusion order or cease and desist order is later issued.
